Scaffolding

The SHSS Teaching & Learning committee and the NU Academic Council have endorsed some minor changes to the requirements to major in History. These requirements will apply to the new cohort and are meant to improve and scaffold (see above) the students’ progression through intermediate and advanced classes.

Until now, we asked for at least 36 HST credits at level 200, 300, or 400. Now we specify that no more than 12 credits must be at level 200 and that at least 12 credits must be at level 400 (excluding the capstone dissertation, aka HST499).

In practice, this means that a History major has to take at least two thematic 400-level classes and Directed Readings (HST498).
