Dr Don Leggett’s article “Naval Architecture, Expertise and Navigating Authority in the British Admiralty, c. 1885-1906” was one of Taylor & Francis’s top 25 downloaded history articles in 2014.
Published as part of a special issue of the Journal for Maritime Research that Dr Leggett edited with Dr James Davey, the article explores two case studies that reveal the contested and controversial status of the naval architect as an expert in ship design, in the process shedding light of the importance of opening debates concerning expertise to cultural, social and political scrutiny.
Taylor and Francis have placed the article on its open access platform, and is freely available to download here.
